THIS WEEK IN ROTARY

On Tuesday November 16, the RDS Board met in its regular monthly meeting. Davis Riordan, Chair of the Beans and Rice program reported that we had already raised $1420.  Chris Van Dyck reported on Heart Gallery Gift Tree and said the gifts are due by December 2.  Jeff Faulwell discussed RYLA for this year and the Four Way Test Essay Contest.

Tuesday evening at 5:30PM the Satellite Group met at Nexus Brewery and on ZOOM. Sara Beltran was the guest speaker and discussed her work for the Rio Grande Community Development Corporation.  She is Grants Coordinator for the Corporation. Among other programs the Corporation serves as a conduit for profit corporations that want to do non-profit charity work.

On Thursday, November 18 the Morning Meeting held at Jimmy's Cafe and via ZOOM was dedicated to hearing from the four charities who have submitted to be our named charity for the Rotary Charity Ball set for April 23, 2022.  The Club members heard four very excellent presentations from four very worthwhile childrens' charities.

Marilyn Beck representing New Mexico Child First Network.

Zach Mikelson representing Lexiam Heart Foundation

Jim Douglas representing Casa Angelico

After the speeches the members voted both in person, absentee and via ZOOM. The Charity Vetting Committee consisting of Chair Herman Haase, Mark Abramson and Brad Ekhoff tallied the votes. It was a very close election but in the end the RYLA Foundation had the most votes.

Now we can get sponsorship letters out  to potential sponsors.  Willie Edwards is the sponsorship chair. Please contact Willie ASAP if you are willing to serve on the Sponsorship Committee and/or you have some ideas for potential sponsors.

Meredith Eisenberg is working on the Charity Ball website which should be up and running soon.

There will be no RDS meetings this week due to the Thanksgiving Holiday.  We all wish all Del Sol Rotarians and their families a very Happy and Peaceful Thanksgiving.

Reminder, this years Christmas/Holiday party will be held on December 12 at Jimmy's Cafe.  Steve Reynolds and staff will cater the event, but if you want an adult beverage you must bring your own. More details will follow in the next few days.

Lets all have a Great week in Rotary putting Service above Self.
