This week in Rotary
On May 17 at 530PM the Satellite Meeting for All Del Sol Rotarians was held HYBRID at Nexus Brewery and ZOOM.  
 
Our speaker was Nichole Rogers, the newest member of Mayor Tim Keller’s staff at the city of Albuquerque. She shared insights about her first month on the job as the African American Community & Business Liaison. Nichole said her biggest task at hand is spreading the word about existing city resources to  increase participation in the city’s various outreach programs. 
 
As a reminder all members are welcome to attend Satellite Meetings for interesting programs,  fellowship, makeups and maybe even a Brew.  
 
On May 18 at 7:00AM via ZOOM the RDS Board held its Regular  meeting. Among highlights of the meeting were:
 
1. Approval of the RDS Foundation Disbursement Plan for annual distributions to Charities from the Foundation now that we have reached the 2020 Goal of $1,000,000 in the Permanent Fund.    For this year there is a little over $41000 to distribute.
2.  Governors Telethon Report:  Tony Pino reported that the net after expenses would be $120,000. A discussion was held on editing the the Telethon and redistributing it.  The Board voted to allocate $3000 for the editing expense.
3.  RI Foundation Polio Plus Goal:  We are a little behind on our goal so members wishing to contribute should contact Ron  Hensley, Brad Sackett or the RI Website.
4.   PE Brad Ekhoff still needs an Admin Chair and a PE for his year.  Please contact Brad.
5.  Ramps Grant- Greg Hallstrom said the District Grant Application has ben submitted for next year.  Brad Ekhoff is planning a fundraiser for the Ramps project to purchase tools and other necessary supplies.  
6.  Chris Van Dyck reported on the District Wide Blood Drive and the next Ramps project.  
7.  President Ed is reinstituting the Freeloader Program with the first event being at Joyce Robertson's home on June 19 at 6:00PM.  Registation for this event will be activated on the Event Calendar.
8.  President Ed Robertson will be sending a letter to all Del Sol Rotarians discussing Dues and Meals options for the coming Rotary Year.
 
On Thursday, May 20, 2021 the Morning Meeting for All Del Sol Rotarians was held HYBRID at Jimmy's Cafe and via Zoom.  Wayne Johnson, Sandoval County Manager was the guest speaker.  Wayne has had a wealth of government experience including New Mexico State Auditor, Bernalillo County Commissioner andTorrance County Manager.  He discussed the differences in managing large and small counties and the various challenges in both types of venue.  
Specifically Wayne discussed the problems connected with attracting large businesses in small counties.
 
He also discussed the Industrial Revenue Bond Program which has supported such major enterprises as the Intel plant in Rio  Rancho. Those bonds for that plant have totaled over $26 million over the years since 1980.  
 
On May 27, 2021 at he Morning Meeting for all Del Sol Rotarians, Jade Richardson Bock, Executive Director of the Children's Grief Center will be the guest speaker. She is the co-author of the book "Parenting Through Grief". The meeting willl be HYBRID at Jimmy's Cafe and via ZOOM.  Club Secretary Davis Riordan will send out a link for the ZOOM meeting.
