On February 13 at the Regular Thursday Meeting, Karen Hall, President , Womens Houseing Coalition and Angie Ludi, Executive Director were the guest speakers. The Coalition helps 60 women clients a year. They have subsidized rental units scattered in four buildings in Albuquerque. The clients are often victims of domestic violence. Clients pay as little as $315 per month for a rental and can stay in the apartments for up to two years while they get on their feet. The Coalition has only 2 paid staff. Most of the work is done by volunteers. To raise fund the Coalition runs a thrift store staffed by volunteers. The Coalition has a very lean budget of only $150,000 per year. They are not government funded.
On February 15 in the morning at the City Parks office there was a service project to help the work of Women 2 Be.
That afternoon 24 Del Sol Rotarians attended the Celebration of Life for Rick Frendle late husband of former member and friend Julie Frendle.
Tomorrow afternoon at 5:15 pm the Satellite Group will hold their regular meeting at Nexus Brewery. Discussion will center around future Service Projects. Newest member Lisa Chavez will be inducted. All Del Sol Rotarians are invited to attend.
On Tuesday, February 18 at Jimmy's Cafe at 7:00AM the RDS Board will hold its regular Monthly meeting.
Thursdays Regular Club Meeting at Jimmy's will feature Monique Jacobsen of Kids Welfare as the speaker. This will also be a farewell to Joe and Ann Rose who are moving to Texas. We will miss them a lot. Joe has been a long term Rotarian and always graced the meetings with colorful anecdotes and his wry sense of humor.
