Club Happenings

1.  Club Meeting Updates

This past Thursday, we had a Membership Recruitment Assembly focused on new membership categories:  Young Professional Membership, Corporate Membership, and Spousal Membership.  Club Membership Committee Chair Jeff Faulwell presented the proposal for these new categories including proposed dues for each.  The members in attendance approved of these categories, so the Club Board will vote on them at the January Board Meeting.  We didn't have time to address membership retention so we will do that sometime in the first quarter of 2023.

Our awesome Rotarian of the Day was Chris Van Dyck, who has served for many years as our Club Service Project Chair and has done a fantastic job.  Thanks, Chris, for everything that you have done and continue to do to develop excellent opportunities for our members to serve our community!

This Tuesday at our Twilight Meeting, we'll have an open discussion of our New Years Resolutions including improvement opportunities for our Club in large part from the feedback that we received last week.

This Thursday, our scheduled speaker is Robert DeBuck who is the APD Horse Patrol Commander.

Having interesting speakers and programs is an important membership retention strategy as well as membership recruitment (i.e., bringing potential members to our meetings) strategy.  A huge thanks to Club Administration Committee Chair Ron Hensley for focusing on excellent Club meeting programs!

2.  Governors Charity Ball Update

Rotary Club of Albuquerque President Mark Goodman joined us at our Thursday morning Club Meeting and reinforced the importance of our partnership.  We have most of the Committee assignments set up and have a number of key items on our plate including finalizing the logo for our theme:  Derby Day.  It's likely going to be challenging to set up meetings for the various sub-committees because of scheduling, so communication such as e-mails and texts will be very important.  We'll start sending out the Governors Charity Ball bulletins to both Clubs starting this coming Wednesday.

3. Upcoming Birthdays and other dates to celebrate, support each other, etc.

January Birthdays!

Doreen Kelsey - January 16th

Kent Cravens - January 25th

Greg Hallstrom - January 26th

Brent Melville - January 27th

Lance Ellis - January 31st

A reminder that Robert Brown will be reaching out to you if your birthday is not listed on our website.  If you have any important reasons to celebrate other than birthdays (anniversaries, birth of a child or grandchild, etc.) or reasons for your fellow Club members to support you, pray for you, help you (e.g., loss of a loved one), please let President Jeff know and he will make sure that the Club is notified and that we can respond accordingly.  We are all in this together!

4. Don Chalmers Memorial Grant

Updated information for next year's grants is available on our Club website home page.  Please consider whom you would nominate so we can have ample candidates when we start our vetting process.

Rotary Happenings

January is Vocational Service Month.  Activities such as the "Retro" Meeting that we had earlier this year and will have again later this year is just one example of our focus on Vocational Service.  Thanks to our Vocational Service Coordinator, Bruce Bortner; and more Vocational Service activities are on the way!

District Happenings

1.  District Blood Drive Challenge:

Governor John Drusedum's blood drive challenge has been extended through the end of February.  For more information on the Blood Drive challenge, please contact President Jeff or Club Service Project Chair, Brent Melville.

2.  Rotary Leadership Institute

The next session of the Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) will be January 28, 2023 on zoom.  If you are interested in learning more about Rotary and/or if you are interested in getting into Rotary Leadership, the RLI has the best offerings within Rotary International.  Many of our members have been through RLI and now serve as instructors/facilitators. Don't miss out on this great opportunity.  And as per Rotary Foundation Donations Chair Mark Abramson, we'll be giving Paul Harris Fellow Recognitions to those members who attend and graduate RLI!  Here is the link to register (you will need to login to register - contact President Jeff or Secretary Meredith if you're having issues with your login):
