This week in Rotary
Del Sol Rotarians, just a reminder that the deadline for nominating charities for next years Rotary Charity Ball is tomorrow November 8, 2021 at 5:00PM.  Please send completed applications to me, Herman Haase at haaseh@gmail.com.  Hopefully the Vetting Committee can meet next Thursday so we can have the presentations by the charities on Thursday, November 18 at the Morning Meeting.

At last Thursday's Morning Meeting Brian Brown from Road Runner Food Bank was the guest speaker.  His talk served as a kickoff for the Annual Beans and Rice Campaign.  Every year Del Sol does Beans and Rice to aid Road Runner Food Bank.  While actual Beans and Rice are welcome cash contributions are very beneficial because Road Runner can buy Beans and Rice at a lower cost than our members can.  At the meeting several members stepped up with "Happy Bucks" contributions for Beans and Rice so on our "Kickoff Day" we raised several hundred dollars for Beans and Rice.

Brian discussed some of the issues faced by Road Runner due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.  There is a shortage of truck drivers.  Increase freight costs have increased prices on the products Road Runner buys.  A case of peanut butter has increased in cost by 200%.

Brian discussed the 2nd Chance program where non-violent offenders who have completed their sentences are trained and obtain CDL Drivers Licenses so that they can become truck driver.  RRFB then hires them and pays between $22-28 an hour.

Brian said that the  food lines increased substantially during the pandemic.  This means that RRFB needs more volunteers, 30 per shift.  Another opportunity for Del Sol Rotarians to put "Service above Self".  Please contact Service Chair Chris Van Dyck if you would like to Volunteer.  We will have a meeting at RRFB in January where we will all volunteer after some Jimmy's burritos.

At Thursday's Meeting Joe Corazzi was presented his Blue Badge.. Joe went over and above with all his work on the Rotary Telethon.

Last Tuesday the "Paints for Polio" Event ws held at Brew Lab 101 in Rio Rancho. Kristin Walls led Del Sol Rotarians and guests in doing paintings.  A great time was had by all between Painting, Beer and Food from the food truck.  Members who were unable to attend can still contribute $30  per person (the net for Polio Plus from the ticket price) by sending a Venmo contribution to  Treasurer John Gordon.

Next Tuesday the Satellite Meeting will be held at Nexus Brewery and on ZOOM.  Chair Jeff Weinrach will email the program tomorrow morning.  All Del Sol Rotarians are welcome.  So come on out and have some fellowship, food and beer while discussing how we can better put "Service Above Self".

On Thursday morning at 7:00AM at Jimmy's Cafe and on ZOOM there will be a Morning Meeting for All Del Sol Rotarians.  The program will feature Bobby Ehrig, Director of the NM Veterans Integration Center(NMVIC) in honor of Veteran's Day.  Lets all come out and pay tribute to our Vets and enjoy breakfast and fellowship at Jimmys.

Lets all have a Great week in Rotary putting Service above Self.
