Thursday's Regular Meeting on March 7 at Meals on Wheels Cafe featured Mike Chicarelli, Chief Operating Officer of University of New Mexico Hospital. Mike updated Del Sol Rotarians on the various programs of UNMH. Mike started out as an ER nurse and now has a Doctor of Nursing degree. He still occasionally pinch hits as an ER nurse. He said that UNMH is the only Level 1 Trauma Center in the State so that if a person is seriously injured in a car accident they will be flown by helicopter to UNMH.
Mike also said that UNMH is a World Class Cancer Care facility and is also the only Children's Hospital in the state of New Mexico.
Mike also said that UNMH is trying to spread primary care physicians out to the more rural areas of the state.
He described the building program at the new tower, the first unit of which will be a new ER. The New tower will have a new surgical suite.
Tomorrows Governors Ball General Meeting at 5:15pm at Nexus Brewery is very important as Governors Ball is fast approaching on April 27. All members are invited to attend.
On Tuesday, March 12, The Rotary Del Sol Foundation Board meets at TBK Bank on Jefferson. Again, all members are invited to learn the status of Foundation investments. The Foundation is the 501 C 3 branch of Rotary Del Sol and manages the permanent fund and its treasurer Brad Sackett handles all the finances for the Governors Ball.
Thursday, March 14, Regular Meeting at Meals on Wheels Cafe will feature Yale Jones from the Rotary Foundation who will update us on the work of the RI Foundation..
Governors Ball is fast approaching, so lets get those sponsorships and auction items submitted. Remember 2020 is not far off and we have a ways to go to fulfill our 2020 Goal. The Governors Ball is the primary fundraising event for the Del Sol Foundation, as well as this years named charities, Children's Grief Center and The Coalition to Prevent Child Sexual Abuse.
