On August 22, 2019 at the Regular Thursday Meeting, Gary King, District Governor Rotary District 5520 and a member of the Moriarty, NM Rotary Club was the guest speaker., He spoke about his long history with Rotary and especially about the progress made in the worldwide fight to cure polio which has been led by Rotary International.
He said "Rotary has been a major part of his life" He told how he started as a small town lawyer in Moriarty and rose to be the Attorney General of New Mexico for two terms. He also talked about the size of District 5520, which is 1000 miles across.
Immediately following the Regular Meeting DG King met with the RDS Board in the District Governors annual meeting with the Board. He asked each committee chair what their plans were for the year especially in the area of membership and service projects.
On August 19, 2019 the Satellite Group met at Nexus Brewery at 5:15 pm and focused on the Public Image Committee and had a business meeting
The Regular Thursday meeting on August 29 at Meals on Wheels will focus on presentations from the sponsors of the six charities selected by the Charity Selection Committee to be voted on by the Club Membership to narrow the list to three semifinalists.
The Charities are:
1. Abrazos Family Support Services
2. Albuquerque Firefighters Random Acts of Kindness
3. Greater Southwest Council, Boy Scouts of America
4. Explora
5. New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired
6. New Mexico Kids Matter (CASA)
After the presentations on Thursday, Charity Selection Committee Chair Dacia Card will hand out ballots to members to vote for their three selections. NOTE; IMPORTANT, IF YOU ARE A MEMBER OF SATELLITE OR UNABLE TO ATTEND THURSDAYS MEETING YOU MAY VOTE ABSENTEE BY SENDING AN EMAIL TO CLUB SECRETARY HERMAN HAASE. PLEASE LIST YOUR THREE CHARITY SELECTIONS. DEADLINE FOR VOTING ABSENTEE IS 6:00PM WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 28, 2019 SO HERMAN WILL HAVE TIME TO TABULATE THE VOTES PRIOR TO THURSDAY'S MEETING. Membership Chair Barrie Segall reminds all Del Sol Rotarians of the contest June, July and August to see who can bring the most guests. Guests are potential members and will help us meet next years Membership Goal. Prizes will be awarded.
