On July 9 RDS held its first morning meeting of the 2020-2021 Rotary year. Ed Robertson, new President, presided over a Hybrid Meeting where some members attended in person at Jimmy's Cafe and some attended via ZOOM. The meeting was a great success and it was hoped to continue this format for the foreseeable future. However, later that day Governor Michele Lujan-Grisham announced a suspension of inside dining at New Mexico restaurants effective July 13, 2020 so for the near future all RDS meetings will be via ZOOM.
John Garcia, Executive Director of the Central New Mexico Homebuilders Association was the speaker. He discussed the status of the home building business in the Albuquerque area in light of the challenges posed by the Covid-19 Pandemic.. While acknowledging the challenges he said that homebuilding is proceeding at a brisk pace in the area.
John said that the supply of houses is very low and the demand is very high so that in spite of the Covid-19 challenges construction trade personnel are quite busy. This was a ray of sunshine in the otherwise distressing economic news causes by Covid-19.
Governors Ball--Tony Pino, Governors Ball Chair informed the Club that the Governors Ball has been rescheduled to April 24, 2021 at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Another bright spot in the meeting was the induction of Mike Mc Caffrey as our first new member of the new Rotary Year. Mike is a transferee from Rotary Club of Simi Valley Sunrise in California. He is Past President of that Club.
Membership Chair Kit Turpen and Members of the Membership Committee inducting Mike Mc Caffrey as the newest RDS Member.
