This week in Rotary
On October 10, 2019 at the Regular Thursday Meeting, Rebecca Sisneros, Youth Coordinator, Workforce  Solutions spoke on the topic "College, Not For Everyone" and also spoke on "Giving Tuesday".
 
Work Force Solutions serves as a liaison between businesses and high school students.  The have a website "Career Solutions" that recruits volunteer groups to be mentors at high schools.  Their program is called "Developing Future Leaders"  The website is a tool for career development.  The services they provide are free to businesses.
 
"Giving Tuesday" is the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving and is a nationwide program to help raise money for not for profits without the not for profit going through the time and expense of putting on its own gala or other fundraiser.  Last year "Giving Tuesday" raised $300,000 for 140 New Mexico not for profits.  This year Giving Tuesday is December 3, 2019.
 
On October 15, the RDS Board met at Jimmy's Cafe. Tony Pino, Governors Ball Co-Chair emphasized the importance at this time of getting sponsors for next years Governors Ball.  He said our partner, Rotary Club of Albuquerque is "on fire" with getting sponsors and we need to work hard to keep up with them. Also discussed were some By-Laws revisions which will be presented to the members at a future date.  
 
Doreen Kelsey, who headed up the Balloon Fiesta Fundraiser staffing the Merchanndise Tent for two sessions, reported that we had all necessary people in attendance and will receive $2000 for the Club from Balloon Fiesta
 
This Thursday, October 17 at the Regular Meeting at 7:00AM at Meals on Wheels Cafe, the speaker will be Ada Kiehne.  She is a Transformational Life and Leadership Coach at AK Mindset Consulting.  She is also Founder of I Love Living Non-Profit Organization with the mission of Teens helping Teens empower and educate for the future.  This should be a dynamic and motivating presentation.  
 
Service Chair Chris Van Dyck will have sign up sheets for Punkin Chunkin at Thursday's meeting.
 
Saturday night October 19 from 6-9 PM Bruce and Joyce Bortner are hosting Freeloaders at  their home.  Ed Robertson has sent notices with a link to sign up.  Yo can also signup by clicking on the event in the Events Calendar on the Home Page.
 
Reminder: October 26 at Tinnin Hunt Club is the Jamie Tinnin Memorial Clay Shootout.  Please contact Ron Hensley if you have a team entry or can work as a volunteer helping with meal service.
