This Week in Rotary

Club Meetings

Our September 1st Morning Meeting special guest presenter was Charlie Frates with the AbqTours - History & Ghost Tours of Old Town!  Charles was a fantastic speaker (he has been a voice actor and it definitely showed!); and our Club will be supporting AbqTours Ghost Tours this year as one of our community projects, and we can't wait!

This week we have two Club meetings:  the Twilight Meeting on Tuesday at Nexus Brewery/Zoom, and our Morning Meeting on Thursday at Jimmy's Cafe/Zoom.

At the Twilight Meeting, Club Public Image Chair Lisa Chavez will facilitate a brainstorming session on Public Image Activities for the Club this year.  We've done this for other key activities at Twilight Meetings over the last several months, and they have been extremely successful.  Please consider joining us on Tuesday at either Nexus Brewery or on zoom and help us build a strong public image program.

This Thursday, we'll be having our long-awaited Foundation Assembly (both The Rotary Foundation and the Del Sol Foundation).  Among the topics, we'll be presenting checks to the first group of Don Chalmers Memorial Fund recipients.  Don's vision was for our Club to achieve at least $1,000,000 in our Foundation Permanent Fund by the year 2020, and to use the interest to support Children's Charities in perpetuity.  We have successfully achieved this significant milestone through the efforts of many in our Club (Tony Pino, Joe Corazzi, Shirley Anderson, Ron Hensley, Jacqueline Hockey, and so many others).  As part of the check presentation, we'll be honoring Don for his outstanding visionary leadership getting us to where we are today.  We'll also be hearing from Mark Abramson about Paul Harris Fellows and the match that is available through the Club, and we'll get updates on our District and Global grant efforts from Greg Hallstrom and/or Phil DeBerardinis and from Christine Glidden.  We have so much to be proud of, and Thursday's meeting will give us a chance to celebrate success while looking look forward to a bright and exciting future.

Club Happenings

1. Rotary Del Sol Charity Ball Vote!

Club Fund Development Chair Willie Edwards will be sending out a survey this week by e-mail for your vote (members only) on whether we continue with the Rotary Charity Ball or whether we don't continue (although we will be working on other fund development activities in its place).  The Rotary Club of Albuquerque Board voted recently to continue working on the Charity Ball in partnership with us if we voted yes to continue.  Willie will be sending out the poll this week, and it's very important to get as many Club members to vote as possible.  Thank you in advance for your participation with this very important decision.

2.  At last week's Club Meeting, we agreed to volunteer to support the Ghost Tours of Old Town in September and October, and we would be receiving a nice gift of over $4000 for our efforts.  Thanks to Kent Cravens, the Albuquerque realtors will help us if we need to fill some additional volunteer time slots.

If you (or your spouse, family member, friend, etc.) are interested in volunteering to serve one or more shifts, please complete the poll below to register.  If you are interested in volunteering for multiple shifts, you need to register for one at a time and then the survey will prompt you if you want to enter additional shifts.  We need four volunteers for each shift, and the survey is broken out by those four volunteer slots.  If you're having any problem with the on-line registration, please let President Jeff know.  This is a new tool that we're using, and we want to make sure it's working properly.

3.  We are looking for a few Club Members who are interested in serving on the Public Image Committee.  As we'll be discussing on Tuesday at the Twilight Meeting, Public Image is becoming a much more important element to successful Rotary Clubs than it was years ago.  If you're interested in serving on the Public Image Committee, please contact President Jeff (jweinrach5520@nmia.com, 1-505-400-1403) or Chair Lisa Chavez (lisachavez96@gmail.com, 1-505-570-1837, or preferably through Facebook Messenger if you're Facebook friends with her).

4.  Upcoming Birthdays!

Jeff Faulwell - September 4th (Happy Belated Birthday, Jeff!)

Bill Rothweiler - September 10th

Jeff Weinrach - September 20th

Chris Van Dyck - September 22nd

Mark Abramson - September 26th

If your birthday is in September and it's not listed, please let President Jeff know so he can update the Club website and so we can celebrate with you.

5.  District Governor John Drusedum will be our special guest presenter on September 22.  John is from Roswell, and he is a great District Governor and an even better person.  Please join us 9/22 for what I'm sure will be a wonderful program.

6.  Reminder:  New Venmo is up and running for our Club Account (to pay dues, happy bux, lucky bux) - "@RotaryDelSol30", and it will show up as Herman Haase.  If you're set up using the old Club Account in Venmo, please change it.  The Club Foundation account ("@R-otaryDelSolFoundation") is staying the same.

7.  Rotary Del Sol is Social!

If you have any ideas or suggestions for our social media, please let Public Image Chair Lisa Chavez or President Jeff know.  And please like, follow, share, etc. our social media.  It will help spread the good word!

8.  If you have any Rotary-related news or happenings, please provide them to Jeff so he can include them in upcoming bulletins.

Rotary Happenings

September is Basic Education and Literacy Month.  Our Club has participated in literacy projects for years including mentorships and tutoring.  We have ample opportunity to participate in similar projects this year and going forward.

District Happenings

1.  District Governor John Drusedum's blood drive challenge is still in effect through January 31st.  The goal is a total of 1000 units collected ("1000 Pints of Life").  Last year, the District gave out four Paul Harris Awards, and will do it again this year for the clubs with most pints donated.  More information on the Blood Drive Challenge can be found here:  documents/en-us/d1f076f4-1ea7-421c-abaa-df7d0e043a7d/1).

2.  Our District will be conducting a session of the Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) on September 17th from 7:30 to 1:15.  Bruce Bortner, Bill Rothweiler, and other Club members including me have been very involved with RLI since its inception; and it's a fantastic way to learn more about Rotary whether you are interested in getting into Rotary Leadership or not.  We highly recommend you consider RLI especially if you are relatively new to Rotary and to our Club.  Here's the link to register:

Please feel free to call, text, or e-mail President Jeff (1-505-400-1403, jweinrach5520@nmia.com) if you have any feedback or suggestions for future Bulletin content or if you have any feedback or questions about any aspect of our Club.
