This week in Rotary

Club News and Updates:

We started the new Rotary year with a "Twilight" Meeting both at Nexus Brewery and on Zoom on July 5th, and our Morning Meeting both at Jimmy's Cafe and on Zoom on July 7th.  For both meetings, we had Club Assemblies focused on considering some changes to our meetings, in large part because they are Hybrid meetings, and on participation with our new Club Committees.

Maybe the most exciting change that we agreed to is to bring the Rotary Wranglers back live and in person!  We can't wait to enjoy song and fellowship that has been a staple of our Club for years.  A huge thanks to our Wrangler Leader, Bruce Bortner, who effectively led us over the last several years remotely via Zoom.  Bruce, the members of Rotary Del Sol are extremely grateful for helping the Club get through a very difficult and challenging period in our history.

Another important change regards Lucky Bux, Venmo, and our Zoom participants.  We agreed to continue our lucky bux like we've been doing it, and we want to make sure that the members on Zoom can participate as easily as those at Jimmy's.  So, what we're asking is for all the members to sign up to use Venmo for contributions to the Club (and, by the way, to the Club Foundation).  Venmo is something we should use anyway since it's much easier than cash transactions, and Venmo can be used to pay our dues as well.  If those of you who are on Zoom can Venmo their lucky bux contributions ahead of time and let Treasurer Herman know (e-mail may be the easiest way to let Herman know), he'll make sure to set aside tickets so you can participate.  We'll also have someone at Jimmy's pull the card for you after you announce the card rank.  It may take a couple of weeks to work out the kinks, but we're confident that it will work better especially for the Zoom participants.

Finally, over the last several weeks, we have been discussing the New Mexico Rotary Charity Ball and how we should proceed with it and/or with other fundraising events.  A poll will be sent to the membership today (Sunday) via e-mail by either Fundraising Committee Chair Willie Edwards or by President Jeff.  Please reply to the poll as soon as possible as we need to make a decision this upcoming week on next steps.

Committee Participation and Speaker Proposal Forms:

If you have not already done so, please complete the two short surveys below.  The first one, which we’ll provide in each weekly bulletin going forward, is a speaker proposal form that will be used by our Programs Committee to coordinate future speakers (and with Zoom, the speakers can be from anywhere literally around the world).  The second one is to find out which Committee(s) you will be or are interested in serving on.  We would like to have as many Club members serving on our Committees as possible especially if it’s aligned with your interests. The Board will be meeting this Thursday and will be working to fill out the Committee rosters.

Rotary District 5520 Updates:

1.  The Bi-District Conference will be August 26th and 27th in El Paso at the Plaza Hotel.  Information will be on the District website shortly.

2.  The South Central Rotary Youth Exchange will be meeting July 15th and 16th in Albuquerque.  For more information, here's the link:  https://scrye.org/summer-2022/

3.  District Governor John Drusedum has established a District-wide Blood Drive Challenge from now through January 31st.  The goal is a total of 1000 units collected ("1000 Pints of Life").  Last year, the District gave out four Paul Harris Awards, and will do it again this year for the clubs with most pints donated.

Please feel free to call, text, or e-mail President Jeff (1-505-400-1403, jweinrach5520@nmia.com) if you have any questions about the surveys, District 5520 news and updates, or about any aspect of our Club.

Let's all have a great week in Rotary putting Service above Self!
