On September 26, at the Regular Thursday Meeting, RDS Member Vicki Turpen and her daughter Shannon Horst spoke about their newly published novel, "Delicate Balance" which focuses on issues with Climate Change. Vicki and Shannon decided to write a novel on the issue of climate change because they said if they had done a scientific treatise no-one would read it. This way a great story will be read by more people and the issue will be brought home to them.
One point that Vicki and Shannon made is that "Climate Change is a symptom of the way we live our lives". They want people to focus on what we can all do to make changes that will help correct Climate Change. They want people out of the data debate and blame game and focus on real solutions. For example, Shannon said that 1/3rd of the Carbon Load is Soils Carbon which can be corrected with different agriculture practices. She said burning of grasslands is a problem and that we are destroying our soil.
Shannon concluded by saying that unfortunately "Humans won't change without a crisis" which she and Vicki illustrated in their novel.
Also at Thursday's Meeting Brian Fisher received his Blue Badge. Good job, Brian.
Last Wednesday the Paint for Polio project hosted by the Satellite Group was a great success. Over 25 Rotarians and guests had a great time learning to paint and hoisted a brew or two for the noble cause of eliminating polio.
Today at 5:15 pm at Nexus Brewery the Satellite Group will have their meeting.
The Regular Thursday meeting on October 3, 2019 at Meals on Wheels will feature a program unknown to your editor at the present time. So, please join me and other Club Members and be surprised with a program which I am sure will be quite good!
Bruce Shaffer, a Charter member of Del Sol who left us for awhile will be rejoining us at Thursday's meeting.
