This week in Rotary
On October 14, 2021 at the Morning Meeting, Jim Walther was the Guest Speaker.  He has been Director of the National Nuclear Museum for  25 years.

Jim gave a fascinating history of the Museum which is one of the few nationally accredited museums.  It is authorized by Congress.  Jim described the history of the present building and the recent remodel project.

There are 17 full time employees at the museum and many exhibits including the new Peacekeeper Memorial and Museum Artifact Center. Jim highlighted the various exhibits.

Next week is Nuclear Science Week.  Jim said that annual attendance at the museum is 72000.

They also have an outdoor display of 9 acres including a B-29.  Jim said that membership in the museum is very worthwhile because they have reciprocity with many museums throughout the Country and membership at the Nuclear Museum gets you into the other museums for free.

Also at the Thursday Meeting Dave Simon reported that we had 11-12 members work at the two shifts at Balloon Fiesta which netted the Club $1000 to be used for Club Service projects.

President Brad Ekhoff honored Ron Hensley with his Paul Harris plus 8 award.

Two Rotarian friends and baseball rivals Mike McCaffrey and Jeff Faulwell engage in a little friendly rivalry at Thursday's Meeting in honor of the MLB playoffs.

This week will be a very busy one for Del Sol Rotarians.  On Tuesday morning at 7:00AM at Jimmy's Cafe and on ZOOM the RDS Board will have its regular October Meeting. All members are invited to attend the meeting in Jimmy's meeting room.

Later on Tuesday, the Satellite Group will have their regular meeting at Nexus Brewery and via ZOOM. Donna Pedace of the Del Norte Club who is the District 5520 Rotary Friendship Exchange Director will be giving us an update on RFE. This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about this great Rotary program where we can meet fellow Rotarians from around the world by hosting them in our homes.

On Thursday at the Morning Meeting for all Del Sol Rotarians, we will have very exciting and timely presentation from representatives of the New Mexico United Soccer team about the proposed new stadium which will be on the ballot in November as a referendum question.  Please  all members come and learn about this important issue.  This will be another of Dave Simon's excellent programs.

Finally to close out the week, the October Freeloaders social event will be an Octoberfest at Herman and Shelly Haase Home in Placitas at 6:00pm.  There is still time to sign up on the website or by calling or emailing Herman.  And no,  Placitas is not in Colorado. Herman and Shelly are providing Brats, Burgers, Sauerkraut, Beer and Wine.  Members are asked to bring a dish to pass and any other adult beverage of their choosing.

All Del Sol Rotarians are reminded to submit any charitable projects that they want considered for next years Governors Ball by October 31, 2021
