Club Happenings
1. Club Meeting Updates
This past Thursday, we had the pleasure of inducting our newest member, Wayne Yevoli, who was sponsored by Kent Cravens! We also recognized Bruce Bortner as our latest Del Sol level Mary Martin Fellow, John Heck for receiving his Paul Harris Fellow (+3) pin, and Jennifer Huffaker for getting her blue badge! And to top it all off, Club Membership Chair Jeff Faulwell led a very informative Club Assembly on Member Retention. Needless to say, this past week's Club meeting was all about the members!
This week, on Tuesday we'll be back at Nexus Brewery (and on zoom) for our Twilight Meeting, where we'll be reviewing our Club Strategic Plan (what we are focusing on and how we're doing so far) in conjunction with the hot-off-the-presses District Strategic Plan. On Thursday, our guest presenter will be Larry Kenemore with the Rotary Club of Siloam Springs, Arkansas (Rotary District 6110) as well as the Rotary Action Group for Addiction Prevention. Larry will talk about the Rotary launch of Project SMART (School Education, Medicine and Drug Disposal, Awareness, Recovery, and Treatment) addressing the opioid crisis and polluted drinking water.
2. Governors Charity Ball update
As we discussed at the Thursday Club meeting, the Rotary Club of Albuquerque (RCA) Board voted to withdraw from the Governors Charity Ball. The vote was not a result of the postponement of the Ball or anything related to Rotary Del Sol. There seemed to be waning interest in the RCA membership, and the Board didn't feel confident that they could commit to the event going forward. The Rotary Del Sol Board will be discussing this and will vote on how we shall proceed (including how we can support Beds4Kidz and our Del Sol Foundation) at our February 15th Board meeting. All Club members are welcome to attend.
3. Beans and Rice Update
We have raised more than $2000 for Beans and Rice this year (for Roadrunner Food Bank). This exceeds our goal of $1800, which was last year's total. Congratulations, everyone!
4. Vortex Theatre upcoming play (free tickets!)
The Vortex Theatre (one of the Don Chalmers Memeorial Grant Recipients) contacted our Club and offered our club members and families complimentary tickets to any Thursday night performance (February 9, 16 or 23 at 7:30pm) of their new play Lava which opens on February 9th as a thank you for our help in launching their literacy theater program - Wrinkle Writing.
If you would like to come, please contact Club Secretary Meredith (meredith@mereditheisenberg.com). Let Meredith know how many tickets you would like and which night and she will have them leave your tickets for you at the door.
If enough people want to go on a particular Thursday, maybe we can arrange to meet for dinner beforehand.
5. Our next "Retro" Meeting is being rescheduled likely to March 30th
Our next "Retro" meeting, which was originally scheduled for March 2nd, will likely be rescheduled to later in March, likely March 30th. Shriley Anderson and Steve Reynolds have agreed to host. More information on the Retro meeting will be coming in the next few weeks.
