Giving Children The Gift of Literacy

This week we heard from Sylvia Maser and Linda Vega from the Global Give A Book program.

The state of New Mexico has the lowest literacy rate in the country.  Global Give A Book helps solve that problem be giving kids high quality Calidcott award books as part of their food pantry visits.  Rotary Del Sol supported Global Give A Book this year through the Don Chalmers grant program.

Consider Giving to the Rotary Del Sol Foundation

Herman reminded us to consider giving to the Rotary Del Sol Foundation this year to continue to support our work in the community.  Members over 70 can reach out to their investment company to donate as a Required Minimum Distribution and save on taxes.

Mentors Needed

We are re-starting our mentor program.  This is a great way to get involved in the club and meet new people (since you can't mentor someone you sponsored).  Help our new members succeed.  Contact Jeff Weinrach if you are interested in participating.

Project SMART

Want to be part of a multi-disciplinary Rotary effort to end addiction?  Consider becoming a trainer for Rotary-based Project Smart.  Contact Dan Wilkinson for more information.

Be A Secret Santa for Foster Children

It's that time again!  Heart Gallery is asking you once again to be a ‘Holiday Helper’ for New Mexico’s foster youth.  This is their 12th year of Operation Secret Santa!  The first year they were able to provide Christmas for around 60 youth and since that first year they have grown to be able to provide Christmas for over 280 youth.  This is an incredible accomplishment all because of you, our 'Holiday Helpers'.  Heart Gallery is asking Rotary Del Sol once again to open your heart and be a Secret Santa for one or more of New Mexico’s foster youth.  Please consider participating, they are trying to get all gifts accounted for by December 01, 2023!

Beans and Rice
There is a severe food crisis in New Mexico this year.  We are collecting beans and rice (or donations) to benefit the Roadrunner Food Bank through the end of the month.  Contact Kit Turpin to donate.
