On October 3 at the Regular Thursday Meeting, Jade Sackett, daughter of Brad Sackett, Rotary Del Sol Foundation Treasurer spoke on her experiences as a RYLA Camper. Jade said she was initially not too excited to attend RYLA but her experiences changed her into an enthusiastic supporter of RYLA.
Jade said the 120 girls at the camp were encouraged to get out of their "comfort zone" and get into their "pressure zone", Campers were encouraged to use strategy and teamwork.
Jade also said speakers including a New Mexico judge talked to the girls on sensitive subjects such as drug abuse. In conclusion Jade said it was a "memorable experience" and that she made long term friends.
Rotary Del Sol is sponsoring three RYLA Campers this year.
Bruce Shaffer, a charter member of Del Sol, who had left the club in 2009 was inducted into membership again at last Thursdays meeting.
Brad Ekhoff of the Satellite Meeting reported on the success of the Paint for Polio fund raiser on September 25. To date, $750 has been raised and 25 people participated.
Doreen Kelsey reported that Del Sol Rotarians will be working both weekends of Balloon Fiesta staffing the merchandising tent. Funds raised will be used for service projects.
On Monday, October 7, 2019 the Satellite Meeting at Nexus Brewery at 5:15 pm discussed the Rotary Foundation and the Rotary Del Sol Foundation.
Del Sol Rotarians are reminded of two upcoming service/fundraiser events: Punkin' Chunkin with Estancia Rotary Club on October 19 Jamie Tinnin Memorial Clay Shoot at the Tinnin Hunt Club on October 26.
