On February 22, 2021at the Satellite Meeting for All Del Sol Rotarians, Michael Burd spoke on his work with the Veterans Memorial. Michael is a Cyber Security Specialist with the USAF and holds the rank of Master Sergeant.
Michael told us how the Veterans Memorial Foundation, where he is Board President, does a lot of volunteer efforts to help area Veterans. Among these are setting up a Legal Defense Fund to represent Airmen at the base, a Business Development Committee and helping rehab housing for veterans who are on hard times.
In the housing effort the The Veteran's Foundation has partnered with Home Depot. Among those projects were the rehabbing of two trailer of Veterans in the Belen area.
The Foundation does a lot of service projects by partnering with other businesses and agencies such as APS.
Michael also told us that because of Covid-19 all the events hosted at the Memorial have had to be canceled. He hopes that such events as the Shakespeare Festival can resume this year.
At the meeting Tony Pino discussed more details on the Rotary Telethon set for April 24, 2021.
Jeff Weinrach told Del Sol Rotarians that they can sign up for the District conference on the District Website. It is scheduled for April 8-10. Charge to attend is $50. The Conference will be Virtual this year due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.
Bruce Bortner announced that the next Rotary Leadership Institute is scheduled for May 1, 2021 from 7:30AM-1:00PM.
This weekend, February 27-28 the Ramps project under the leadership of Greg Hallstrom completed installation of another Ramp for a disabled area person.
Next Thursday, March 4, 2021 The Morning Meeting for All Del Sol Rotarians at 7:00AM via ZOOM the Guest Speaker will be Brian Colon, New Mexico State Auditor. All Del Sol Rotarians and Guests are invited to learn more about State finances during these difficult times.
