Club Happenings

1.  Club Meeting Updates

This past week, we had two awesome Club meetings!  At our Tuesday Twilight Meeting, we had the pleasure of inducting our newest member, Elizabeth Montoya, into the Club.  Even before Elizabeth joined the Club, she was able to identify and confirm our first major sponsor for the upcoming Bike Ride fund-raiser to support our Nepal Global Grant!  And at our Thursday Morning Meeting, our Rotarian of the Day was our outstanding Rotary Foundation Committee Chair, Mitch Selking, and not coincidently, our guest speaker was Geoff Cochran, our Annual Giving Officer with the Rotary Foundation!

Next week, at our Thursday morning meeting, our guest presenter will be Rikki Quintana whose title will be:  From Burned Out Lawyer to Silk Road Entrepreneur.

2.  Freeloaders on Saturday, May 6th at Ron and Cindy Hensley's House!

On Saturday, May 6th, we'll be having our next "Freeloaders" social event at Cindy and Ron Hensley's home.  May 6th is also Kentucky Derby Day so wear your Derby finery.

The main course will be southern baked chicken and pulled pork and attendees are asked to bring appetizers, salads, side dishes and desserts. Ron has reported that he has hired a bartender for the night and in honor of the day Mint Juleps will be served in addition to beer and wine but please feel free to bring any other adult beverages you would like. Soft drinks and water will also be provided,

Please coordinate with Cindy on what you are planning to bring so we don't end up with all salads and no desserts which would be awful.  Cindy's cell number is 505 238-6445.

Their address is 434 Avenida C de Baca, Bernalillo NM

Please use the Online Registration link in the events section of our website to register yourself and your guests, and use the "comments" section to add what food item or items you would like to bring.

You can contact Ed Robertson at 1-505-263-8050 or edrob846@gmail.com or Ron Hensley at 1-505-238-6335 with any questions.  We have quite a few new Club members, so this will be a great opportunity to get to know them.

3.  Project SMART "Train the Trainer" for Naloxone Class!

For the first step in our new Project SMART (School Education, Medicine and Drug Disposal, Awareness, Recovery, and Treatment) initiative, our Project SMART team (Jeff, Davis, Dean, Kit, and Dan) is coordinating a "Train the Trainer" Naloxone class for 20 to 25 people (they do not need to be Rotarians). Naloxone is an opioid antagonist meaning that it binds to opioid receptors and can reverse and block the effects of opioids such as heroin, morphine, and oxycodone.  We will be providing this Naloxone Training using the newest and latest Naloxone from Kloxxado that is more effective and works faster than other products.  If you are interested in being one of our trainers for this roll-out, please contact President Jeff at 1-505-400-1403 or jweinrach5520@nmia.com.

6. Rotary Fellowships and Rotary Action Groups

Besides all the great activities we do at the Club level, members have the opportunity to join Rotary Fellowships and Rotary Action Groups.  The Fellowships tend to be more social in nature (Golf, Wine, etc.), while the action groups are aligned with Rotary's Areas of Focus and the work we do through the Rotary Foundation (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene; Polio Survivors, etc.).  Please consider joining one or more of these groups to add to your Rotary experience:

7. Rotary Foundation Banquet on Wednesday, April 26th with special guest presenter (and good friend of our Rotary Club) Rotary Foundation Trustee Greg Podd!

This Wednesday, April 26th, the Albuquerque Rotary Clubs will be hosting a Rotary Foundation banquet with special guest presenter, Past Rotary International Director and current Rotary Foundation Trustee Greg Podd.  We will be recognizing those who have supported the Rotary Foundation, educate those new to Rotary about the work of the Foundation, and celebrate the accomplishments made possible by the Foundation.  Tickets are $40 per person.  For more information, please contact Rotary 5520 District Secretary Donette Wagner (505-269-4634, secretary5520@gmail.com).
Greg is a very good friend of our Club, so let's have a strong turnout for this important event!
