This week in Rotary
Happy Anniversary to All Del Sol Rotarians!!! Rotary Del Sol was formed on February 14,  1997.  Today is our 24th Anniversary.  Who can name all the Charter Members?  If you can, please reply to the Editor and we will feature the Charter Members in an upcoming issue.

We can all be proud of what has ben achieved by Del Sol especially meeting our 2020 goal of $1million in the Rotary Del Sol Foundation permanent fund.  Then there have been all the wonderful service projects, the Governors Balls and Freeloaders.  We are all blessed ro be a part of such a Great Rotary Club.

On February 8 at the Satellite Meeting Davis Castillo, Jr. was inducted into Del Sol.  Jeff Weinrach, Ed Robertson, Brent Melville, Lance Ellis and Kit Turpen did the Induction.  David  was also the speaker.  As a Lieutenant on the Albuquerque Fire and Rescue Department, David spoke about all the programs  the Department has helping with Community Service.  Members were surprised to learn that 85% of the Departments calls are for medical needs of Albuquerque Residents. Ambulance calls, rescue calls and 911 calls are all the everyday occurrences for Department Members.

The Department also has programs for Substance Abuse, Grab Bar Installation, and Ramp Installation. The 730 members of the staff also help with Homeless issues.

David said that there are good opportunities for employment for young EMTs.  They have to be 18 yers old, have 15 hours of college credit and have an EMT license.

At the same meeting, it was announced that the next Ramp project will be installing a 30 foot ramp on February 20.   Greg Hallstrom needs 8-10 members to help with this project.

Ed Robertson said he has taken a check  for $420 to Jimmy's Cafe to pay for a continuation of the Health Care Heroes program.

Christine Glidden said she is working on an application for a new Grant for the Nepal project.  She said last  year the project gave out 5000 menstrual kits to young women  in the rural villages of Nepal. This has  been a Joint Project supported by Women2Be, Rotary Del Sol, other Albuquerque Rotary Clubs and a club in Nepal.
