On January 9 at the Regular Thursday Meeting,  Baird Fleming, Executive Director, Albuquerque Biopark and a Veterinarian gave a very entertaining presentation about the Biopark and how smart animals are.  He told us that the Biopark, with only a $14 million budget is still a world class conservation facility.  He described how he grew up in Nicaragua where he had otters as pets and how he learned how smart they are and how animals often outwit us.  He told a story about an orangutang who was able to pick the lock on his cage, get out and then let himself back in and relock the cage.

 

On a sad note, Baird told us that the recent fires in Australia have caused up to  30% of the species in the affected areas to become extinct. 

 

There will be no Satellite Meeting this week but Jeff Weinrach says the next Satellite Meeting will be on January 20 and will be a business meeting.

 

IMPORTANT NOTE:  This weeks Regular Meeting on Thursday, January 17, 2020 will be at Jimmy's Cafe.  President Dave asks that we all try to arrive by 6:45AM because Steve Reynolds is making arrangements for us to order breakfast off the menu.  He has a procedure which he uses for other organizations but for the first time it may take a little while for us to learn it. There is a numbering system to match up orders so once we learn it, Steve says it works very well.  There will be no speaker as this will be a Club Assembly to discuss Club Business including the Governors Ball which is fast approaching in April. AGAIN DON'T GO  TO MEALS ON WHEELS THIS WEEK BUT JIMMY'S CAFE LOCATED AT 7007 JEFFERSON STREET, JUST SOUTH OF THE INTERSECTION WITH ELLISON.  IT IS NEXT DOOR TO THE NEW MEXICO BANK AND TRUST BRANCH ON THE CORNER OF ELLISON AND JEFFERSON. IT OPENS AT 6:30 AM.
