On March 30, 2021 the RDS Board held a special meeting to determine when and how to return to in-person meetings. After a lively discussion the Board decided to start Live/ZOOM Hybrid Morning Meetings on a weekly basis effective April 15, 2021 at Jimmy's Cafe and also on ZOOM.
For the time being the Board decided to charge members for meals only for the meetings they attend in person. This is not meant to be a permanent change but is being done due to the fact that some members may still be uncomfortable attending live.
Registration on the website has been enabled. While this is not required at this time it would be helpful with the Board and the Staff at Jimmy's to be able to have an idea how many will attend. There are still limitations on number of people who can be served at Jimmy's for social distancing purposes so it will be very helpful if members would sign up in advance.
On April 1 at the Morning Meeting Dr. Bill Dodge, an archeologist and historian was the speaker. He gave a fascinating presentation about his work on archeological "digs" from Tell Es Sweyhat, near Aleppo, Syria to the Zuni Reservation here in New Mexico.
Dr. Dodge received his PHD at UNM where he wrote a book about Black Rock History. He has also authored booklets about old military bases such as the Hobbs Army Air Field. For the last 8 years he has researched and documented historic Albuquerque neighborhoods like the Vista Larga District and the Monte Vista Subdivision. He has worked to get Historic Albuquerque districts on the Registry of Historic Places
Tomorrow at 5:30 pm the Satellite Group will have a ZOOM meeting. All members are invited to attend. Satellite Chair Jeff Weinrach has sent out a link to all members to be able to attend. Speaker will be Anna Pentler, Executive Director of the New Mexico Immunization Coalition. Anna will update us on how our state is doing on Covid-19 Vaccinations.
Please remember to register for the New Mexico Rotary Telethon on April 24. Please get those Auction items to Brad Ekhoff. Also ember to get your "Watch Party" together and invite friends to attend and bid on Auction items and enjoy a fabulous evening of entertainment orchestrated by "Director" Joe Corazzi.
Lets all have a Great week in Rotary putting Service above Self.
