Club Meetings

Our July 28th Morning Meeting speaker was Danielle Casey, President and CEO of the Albuquerque Regional Economic Alliance (AREA).  She reinforced its ultimate goal of moving our region from the bottom 25% to the top 25% of mid-sized markets in the U.S. for job growth over the next five years.  It's three goal areas are:

1.  Establish National Identify as Leading Location for Business,

2.  Attract, Retain, and Align Talent, and

3.  Break Down Barriers to Regional Competitiveness

This Tuesday, we'll have our twice-a-month Twilight meeting at Nexus Brewery and on Zoom.  Our special guest presenter will be Eric Collings from Clovis, who is the District's Public Image Chair.  Eric will discuss the District's overall strategy regarding Public Image and supporting Clubs like ours, and he'll also discuss Governor John's Thousand Pints of Life Blood Drive Challenge (more information can be found here:  documents/en-us/d1f076f4-1ea7-421c-abaa-df7d0e043a7d/1).  This Thursday, we'll have our weekly morning meeting.  Details for both programs, including the zoom login if you'll be joining remotely, will be provided in the next few days.

Thank you to those who provided us with potential speakers for upcoming meetings!  We're always looking for interesting speakers and programs, so please complete the speaker form below if you have suggestions we should consider for upcoming programs:  https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfKbllpAiHsoYggme6XazNstvg5Z0TKSa9e7uhf9fDzglp-Yw/viewform?usp=sf_link

Birthdays!

If you haven't done so, please log in to our Club website and make sure that your birthday is listed so we can celebrate your birthday with you.  If you are having problems logging into the website, please let President Jeff know.

Club Happenings

1. We are proud to announce the first recipients from our Del Sol Foundation Grants!

  • Explora Science and Children's Museum
  • NDI New Mexico
  • New Mexico School for the Blind Foundation
  • El Ranchito de Los Ninos
  • Vortex Theater Literacy Program

We will schedule a check presentation meeting for all five recipients in the near future; and we will have each recipient present to the Club later this year to let us know how our grants have been helping these charities serve their constituents. A HUGE thank you to the Del Sol Foundation Board for vetting through the various nominations and, with input from the Club Board, determining the first set of recipients.  As this is a new process, we'll review every aspect and determine how we can improve upon it in preparation for the next grant cycle.

2.  As per Phil and Brent, we had to postpone this Saturday's Ramp Build.  More information on the next Ramp Build will be provided as soon as we have the details.  These service projects are a great opportunity to invite potential members to participate, so please consider including them when we have our next Ramp Build (or any service project, for that matter).

3.  Next Freeloaders at Linda Busick's home.  More info coming shortly.  Another great opportunity to bring potential members!

4.  Greg did an informal poll about working the balloon fiesta this year, and the membership was interested.  More information on this great opportunity is forthcoming!

5.  Reminder:  New Venmo is up and running for our Club Account (to pay dues, happy bux, lucky bux) - "@RotaryDelSol30", and it will show up as Herman Haase.  If you're set up using the old Club Account in Venmo, please change it.  The Club Foundation account ("@R-otaryDelSolFoundation") is staying the same.

6.  A reminder that Rotary Del Sol is on social media, now including Instagram.  We've posted more pictures from the recent Bastille Day Freeloaders and from our Club meetings on our Facebook page and on Instagram, as well as our Twitter page.  Social media is a great tool (if used properly) to let the community know what our Club is doing as well as to recruit potential members.  If you have any ideas or suggestions for our social media, please let Public Image Chair Lisa Chavez or President Jeff know.  And please like, follow, share, etc. our social media.  It will help spread the good word!

7.  If you have any Rotary-related news or happenings, please provide them to Jeff so he can include them in upcoming bulletins.

Rotary Happenings

August is Membership and New Club Development Month.  We're always looking for outstanding people to join our merry band, so be on the lookout!

Avenues of Service (and DEI) Corner!

From our DEI Coordinator, Sara Beltran:

Sara here from our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion corner of our Del Sol Rotary Club world. In this corner you will be getting some snippets from my point of view on why DEI should be the default lens we use to perceive our world and act upon in our everyday lives. If we truly want to live out Rotary’s commitment to DEI, we need to reflect and act on DEI strategies everyday and everywhere, especially in the places where we commune to make our world better. Learning about the barriers that our privilege blind us to is the first step to have our membership reflect our world more accurately.

Next time I will start deglossing the first word in this important cluster of words… “Diversity”. Feel free to get your mind rolling on what diversity within societal structures means to you. Which bells does it ring? Was there an experience that got you thinking more deeply about it? What type of value do you find in diversity?

District Happenings

1.  The Bi-District Conference will be August 26th and 27th in El Paso at the Plaza Hotel.  Registration is open on the District website (Home Page | District 5520 (rotary5520.org).  Several of us including Christine Glidden and I will be there.  If you haven't been to a Bi-District Conference, it's a very unique and special event with opportunities to partner with our friends across the border in District 4110.

2.  District Governor John Drusedum has established a District-wide Blood Drive Challenge from now through January 31st.  The goal is a total of 1000 units collected ("1000 Pints of Life").  Last year, the District gave out four Paul Harris Awards, and will do it again this year for the clubs with most pints donated.  Eric Collings will be speaking at our Twilight Meeting about this challenge and about the District's Public Image Strategy.  More information on the Blood Drive Challenge can be found here:  documents/en-us/d1f076f4-1ea7-421c-abaa-df7d0e043a7d/1).

Please feel free to call, text, or e-mail President Jeff (1-505-400-1403, jweinrach5520@nmia.com) if you have any feedback or suggestions for future Bulletin content or if you have any feedback or questions about any aspect of our Club.
