This past week, we had our last Club meeting of the Rotary year! Our very special guest presenter was Shannon Horst, Executive Director with Tree New Mexico, whose mission is to help communities lant and care for trees in urban areas - large and small - throughout the Land of Enchantment. (HOME - Tree New Mexico (treenm.org) Past District Governor, Rotary Wrangler, and somewhat coincidently Shannon's Brother Kit Turpen also swore in our new Club President, Brad Ekhoff! Congratulations to Brad and the incoming Club Board!
Here's a video of the Wranglers who helped us celebrate Independence Day!
As we are in transition, we haven't updated our Events Calendar yet. We will be meeting this Thursday, July 6th. Once we have clarified our program, we will let you know. We will not be having a Twilight Meeting this Tuesday, July 4th, because of the holiday, so we're planning to reconvene the following Tuesday, July 11th.
2. Bike Fund-Raiser Update - Walkers can join us!
Last week, we were given the green light to have walkers join bicycle riders for our fund-raiser! If you have not yet done so, please consider registering through the website (https://women2be.org), and also spread the word including through the brochures and also the video below.
3. Bastille Day Freeloaders at Jacqueline Hockey's home!
Jacqueline is once again going to host our Rotary de Sol Freeloaders potluck dinner on Friday, July 14th at 6:00 PM.
This will be the first of our new Rotary year events as well as a celebration of Bastille Day to honor Jacqueline's French heritage. You can impress Jacqueline with your knowledge of a few facts about this day. 1) July 14th is only called Bastille Day in English speaking countries; In France it is known as Fete National Francaise or French National Celebration. 2) The day celebrates the storming of the Bastille on July 14,1789, and the Fete de la Federation on July 14,1790. 3) The double LL in Bastille is silent as in tortilla.
Tea and water will be furnished but feel free to bring any adult or other beverages you would like.
More information coming!!!
4. RYLA Camper for this year!
Thanks in large part to the dedicated effort of Club New Generations/Youth Programs Committee Chair, Jennifer Huffaker, we'll be sending Juliana Wardroup-Sanchez to RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) camp this year! We can't wait to hear from Juliana about what her experience was like! Due to the pandemic, RYLA camp was not being held the last few years, and it's great to see that it's back up and running. It's one of the most important Rotary programs that we can support each year!
