This week was a very sad time for all Del Sol Rotarians. On Wednesday we learned that Caryn Ekhoff, wife of Del Sol President Brad Ekhoff had passed away that day after having surgery on Tuesday. We all remember what a wonderful caring person Caryn was and will all miss her very much. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to Brad and the whole Ekhoff family.
We also learned this week that Mitch Selking's mom passed away suddenly on Tuesday morning. Our condolences go out to Mitch.
On Tuesday there was the May RDS Board Meeting. Several items were discussed. Ron Hensley said that we are behind in contributions to the Annual Fund of the Rotary Foundation. He said we are ahead on Polio Plus and wants to remind members to give their Paul Harris contributions to the Annual Fund so we get a return on that in Grants from the Foundation.
Ron also said we have given over $677000 to the Rotary Foundation as a Club since the Club was founded in 1997.
As to the Rotary Charity Ball, Ron said it looks like the net on the Ball will be about $90000. Good job Rotarians!!!
President Brad suggested that the Club create a position of Club Historian.
On Tuesday evening at the Satellite Meeting for All Del Sol Rotarians, Conley Mc Coy did a Vocational presentation "The Cold Chain Management of the COVID-19 Vaccines" Conley is Director of Specialty Pharmacy and Retail Pharmacy Service at Presbyterian Hospital. On Thursday, the day after we learned of Caryn Ekhoff passing we had a Morning Meeting for All Del Sol Rotarians. It ws a much subdued meeting where members consoled each other and thought about ways to help the Ekhoff family. Steve Reynolds of Jimmy's Cafe has offered to provide the meal after the Celebration of Life for Caryn.
Our Thursday speaker was Aprilyn Chavez Geissler, Club member who will we Club Vice President next Rotary Year. She gave a very compelling account of her early struggles as a victim of domestic violence. She had to leave home and lived in her car as a freshman at UNM for the first three months.
Aprilyn's motto from one of the slides used during her talk.
Aprilyn ultimately overcame her obstacles, obtained a degree in finance from UNM and entered upon a very successful career as an insurance agent. She is a trustee of NAIFA and on the Board of Gateway Insurance with which her firm is affiliated. As a Rotarians she has served as Girls Camp Director for RYLA.
Our next Morning Meeting for All Del Sol Rotarians on Thursday May 26 at Jimmy's Cafe and on ZOOM will feature Colonel Brian Vlaun, Commander, USAF Inspection Agency, Kirtland Air Force Base as part of the Clubs Memorial Day Celebration.
Lets all have a Great week in Rotary putting Service above Self.
