This week in Rotary
On December 19, 2019 at the  last Regular Thursday Meeting of the year President Dave Simon presented  a gratuity to the Meals on Wheels Staff to thank them for their service to the Club through the year.

Terry Huertaz spoke on behalf of the American Lung Association.  Terry said that the Lung Association is the oldest Not for profit organization in New Mexico.

Terry discussed the Lung Associations fundraiser, "Fight for Air Quality" which is a race  up the stairs to the top of the Hyatt Hotel.  It has a goal of raising $100,000. Kent Cravens chairs that event.

Tony Pino was awarded  a Paul Harris Society Fellow pin.

At the December 19,2019 meeting the Membership voted on the Club Officers for the 2020-2021 Rotary Year.  They are:

President: Ed Robertson

Vice-President: Herman Haase

Secretary: Davis Riordan

Treasurer: John Gordon

Membership Chair: Barrie Segall

Rotary Foundation Chair: Ron Hensley..

The President-Nominee and other Committee Chairs will be filled at a later date.

As we start the New Year 2020 the first Rotary meeting of the year is the Satellite Meeting on January 6 at Nexus Brewery. Karen Moses, Editor in Chief of the Albuquerque Journal will be the speaker.  This should be an exciting meeting and all members are urged to attend.

Please note there will be no Regular Club Meeting on January 2, 2020 due to the New Year's Holiday.  The next Regular Club Meeting will be on January 9, 2020 at Meals on Wheels Cafe.  Further information will be provided in next weeks Bulletin.

At the December 17 RDS Board Meeting, The Board decided to try an experiment  with a new venue for the Regular Thursday meeting.  On January 16, 2020 the Regular Thursday Meeting will be held at Jimmy's Cafe.  Steve Reynolds, Satellite Member and owner of Jimmys has presented a proposal where  we will be able to order off the menu.  This should be a great improvement in the food quality and choice.  Steve uses a numbering system to keep track of multiple orders but since this is a first time for our club doing this we request members to arrive by 6:45 AM because initially it may take a little longer to serve the meal.

After the January 16th Meeting the Board will decide whether to ultimately move to Jimmys or remain at Meals on Wheels.  One of the considerations for the pending change is that Meals on Wheels has requested a $4.00 increase per meal for the breakfast they serve.   As of now the remainder of the month  of January meetings will be at Meals on Wheels pending a decision on the change.  Please reach out to your Board Members with your thoughts about this alternate meeting site and Breakfast plan.

The New Mexico Governors  Charity Ball is scheduled for April 18, 2020  at Sandia Resort and Casino.  Bruce Bortner has volunteered to help Bobby Wallace with the Sponsorships.  Please reach out to your contacts in the Albuquerque Community for possible sponsorships.  Any questions about sponsorships can be addressed to Bobby Wallace or Bruce Bortner.  The ball website is up and running at nmgovernorscharityball.org.  Sponsorship information can be found there. Theme for the ball is Let's Rock Around the Clock.  It is not too early to sign up for tables which can be done on the website.

Finally, lets all think about bringing guests and possible members to our meetings.

Lets all have a Great week in Rotary putting Service above Self.
